This week’s slate of Connecticut high school football games brought drama, big names, and some wild late-game moments. It’s easy to see why Friday nights mean so much from Stamford to Springfield.

Across the state, backs, quarterbacks, receivers, and even a freshman kicker made headlines. Regular-season matchups suddenly felt like classics in the making.

Offensive Fireworks Light Up Scoreboards Across Connecticut

Offenses put on a show everywhere, from small-town teams to year-in, year-out powerhouses. Running backs broke off long runs, quarterbacks spread the wealth, and receivers punished defenses downfield.

Fans in places like Killingly, Naugatuck, West Haven, and Waterbury had plenty to get loud about.

Ground Game Dominance from Killingly to Naugatuck

In eastern Connecticut, Killingly rolled past Woodstock Academy 67-13. Hayden Allard needed just six carries to rack up 109 yards and three touchdowns.

He set the tone early and turned the matchup into a blowout before halftime. That kind of efficiency is just wild.

Meanwhile, in the Naugatuck Valley, Naugatuck running back Brandon Andoh made his mark in a totally different kind of game. Andoh ran 10 times for 156 yards and three touchdowns in a narrow 34-33 loss to Ansonia.

His big plays kept Naugatuck in the fight until a late score by Ansonia’s Crishon Fogle flipped the outcome. That one stung for Naugatuck, but Andoh’s effort stood out.

West Haven’s Power Running Seals the Deal

On the shoreline, West Haven leaned on Amir Daniley to grind out a 21-14 win over North Haven. Daniley finished with 255 yards and two touchdowns.

His 46-yard sprint late in the fourth quarter broke a tense tie and put the game away. In a battle defined by tough play and field position, that run made all the difference.

Two-Way Stars and Balanced Attacks Define Key Wins

Some programs got huge contributions from players who starred on both sides of the ball. Teams in Meriden, New Canaan, and Madison leaned on these athletes as they chase playoff spots.

Maloney’s Complete Effort in Meriden

In Meriden, Maloney took down crosstown rival Platt 42-13. Devan Bacote scored as a runner and receiver, and he added nine tackles on defense.

Bacote’s versatility set the pace for a Spartans team that just took over the game. Defensive standouts Jameir Diaz and Andrevian Dixon each scored on defense, flipping momentum and turning what could’ve been a close contest into a statement win.

Rockville’s Balanced Attack Overpowers Ellington

Up in north-central Connecticut, Rockville showed off a balanced offense in a 42-7 rout of Ellington. Will J. Davis led the ground game, piling up 217 yards and three touchdowns.

He kept the Ellington defense guessing, whether pounding up the middle or bouncing outside. Quarterback Luca Houle added 246 passing yards and two touchdowns, giving Rockville a dangerous look that’s sure to worry teams from Manchester and Vernon.

Air Attacks and Clutch Kicking Tilt the Week’s Biggest Games

The passing game stole some headlines, too. Quarterbacks and receivers stepped up, and a clutch field goal capped off the week’s drama from Darien to the Connecticut River Valley.

Holy Cross and New Canaan Shine Through the Air

In Waterbury, Holy Cross leaned on wideout Dae’Sean Graves during a 41-6 win over Wolcott. Graves hauled in seven catches for 169 yards and four touchdowns, torching the secondary and stretching the field.

Down in Fairfield County, New Canaan kept its air attack rolling in a 39-7 win over Darien. Quarterback Maddox Hoffman threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns, then even caught a 35-yard touchdown himself.

That kind of creativity and execution is why New Canaan keeps showing up in the playoff conversation year after year.

Defensive Playmakers and a Freshman Hero at Valley Regional/LymeOld Lyme

Defenses had their moments, too. Pick-sixes made a real impact in several games.

Hunter Allard of Killingly, Jameir Diaz of Maloney, and Paul Fumex of Hand each returned interceptions for touchdowns. Those momentum-swinging plays are going to stick in coaches’ minds as they break down film in places like Madison and New Haven.

The week’s wildest finish came from a freshman. For the co-op Valley Regional/Lyme-Old Lyme team—pulling in students from Deep River and Old Lyme—Sam Zelek stepped up with the clock winding down.

The ninth-grader calmly booted a 43-yard field goal right as time ran out. That kick sealed a 9-7 win and, honestly, probably earned him a spot in local legend.
