St. Joseph Edges Staples for 3-1 Baseball Victory in Westport

Gavin Rovinelli gave up just one unearned run and struck out six over five innings. He anchored St. Joseph’s win over Staples in Westport, and the Cadets are now off to a strong 3-1 start this season.

The bullpen handled the rest. Nate Walsh tossed two scoreless innings and picked up his second save of the year.

On offense, Jake Rios knocked in two runs with a pair of singles. Drew Traverso chipped in with an RBI double to help drive in St. Joseph’s runs.

H.T. Jones doubled and scored, showing off the Cadets’ depth. Kyle Esteves added two singles in the win.

For Staples, Nolan Walters tried to keep things close with a double and a single.

Newtown Softball Defeats St. Joseph 4-2

In softball, Lila Accousti and Evelynn Schoen hit back-to-back home runs for Newtown. Their big swings lifted the Nighthawks to a 4-2 win over St. Joseph.

BB Diorio added a double and an RBI. Addison Cordova scattered seven hits, struck out six, and earned the pitching win, pushing Newtown to 4-0 on the season.

St. Joseph’s offense got a spark from Addie Graf, who doubled, singled, and drove in two runs. Mackenzie Caouette chipped in with two hits as well.

This one came down to a mix of small-ball and timely power. Sometimes, that’s all it takes for the Nighthawks to edge out a close one in Connecticut high school softball.
