The History of Beer’d Brewing Company

Beer’d Brewing Company has grown from a small passion project to one of Connecticut’s beloved craft breweries. The journey began with a chance meeting between two college students and evolved through years of dedication to brewing excellence.

Founding and Early Days

The story of Beer’d Brewing began in 2005 when Aaren Simoncini and Precious Putnam met as students at Rochester Institute of Technology. While they fell for each other right away, their love for beer developed more slowly. It started with an elective course called “Beers of the World” that sparked their interest.

This interest grew into a fascination with home-brewing. After years of experimenting and perfecting their craft, Aaren and Precious took the leap to professional brewing. In 2012, they opened Beer’d Brewing Company in the American Velvet Mill building in Stonington, Connecticut.

The couple wanted to bring fresh, handcrafted beer to New London County. Their microbrewery started small but quickly gained fans who appreciated their creative approach to brewing.

Growth and Expansion

Success came quickly for Beer’d Brewing. Within just one year of opening their doors in Stonington, Aaren and Precious realized they needed more space. Their popular brews had created a demand they couldn’t meet with their original setup.

After searching for the right location, they expanded to a second facility on Leonard Drive in Groton, CT. This industrial area provided the perfect spot for their growing operations.

Today, Beer’d Brewing operates both locations with a combined 1,085 gallon/35 BBL brew house capacity. You’ll find a wide variety of beers when you visit, from their “tried and true favorites” to experimental small-batch creations.

Signature Brews and Unique Flavors

Beer’d Brewing Company offers an impressive lineup of handcrafted beers that showcase their commitment to quality and creativity. Their brewing philosophy combines traditional techniques with innovative flavors.

Popular Year-Round Beers

One of Beer’d’s standout offerings is their American Pale Ale, which bursts with tropical fruit aromas and flavors. You’ll notice delightful citrus notes and a unique graham cracker character at the finish. With an ABV of 6.7%, it’s flavorful yet approachable.

When you visit either the Stonington or Groton location, you’ll find a variety of year-round favorites that locals can’t get enough of. The brewery’s smaller production size allows them to maintain exceptional quality control across their core lineup.

Seasonal and Limited Edition Releases

Beyond their regular offerings, you’ll want to look out for Beer’d’s experimental small batch brews that rotate throughout the year. These limited releases often showcase the creative talents of their entire team.

What makes their seasonal beers special? Many come from staff inspirations, including ideas from non-production employees that the brewing team brings to life.

Some of their more adventurous options feature savory flavors you wouldn’t typically find in beer, providing a unique tasting experience you can’t get anywhere else.

When visiting during different seasons, you’ll discover new flavor profiles that might challenge your perception of what craft beer can be. Their experimental approach keeps the menu fresh and exciting for repeat visitors.
