History of Thomas Hooker Brewery

Thomas Hooker Brewery has a rich history spanning several decades, making it one of Connecticut’s oldest craft breweries. The brewery’s story includes multiple locations and a commitment to quality brewing throughout its evolution.

Founding and Early Years

Thomas Hooker Brewery’s roots trace back to 1996 when it began as Trout Brook Restaurant and Brewpub in Hartford. The brewpub operated from the historic Spaghetti Warehouse Building, offering locals their first taste of what would become a Connecticut brewing institution. The name pays homage to the Reverend Thomas Hooker, a Puritan clergyman who founded the Colony of Connecticut in the 1600s.

In the early 2000s, the original brewpub closed, marking a turning point for the brand. This closure wasn’t the end but rather a transition period that would lead to bigger opportunities. The brewery’s founders remained committed to their craft despite this early setback.

Growth and Expansion

In 2006, the brewery reopened under the official name Thomas Hooker Brewing Company in Bloomfield, Connecticut. This move represented not just a change in location but a significant expansion of their brewing capabilities. By 2007, they were fully operational in their new home.

Under the leadership of founder Curt Cameron, the brewery continued to grow its presence in Connecticut’s craft beer scene. Their expansion eventually included a second location at 140 Huyshope Avenue in Hartford, giving you multiple options to experience their brews.

Today, Thomas Hooker has evolved beyond traditional craft beers. They’ve recently begun producing THC-infused beverages, showing their willingness to innovate while maintaining their status as one of Connecticut’s brewing pioneers.
