Celebrating Local Innovation and Manufacturing Heritage

The highly anticipated 16-competitor bracket was recently unveiled at Ensign-Bickford Aerospace and Defense in Simsbury. That very facility proudly claimed last year’s crown with its remarkable frangible joint design.

Looking further back, Electric Boat’s massive Virginia-class submarine took home the victory in the inaugural 2024 contest. This event truly highlights how vital industry is across all Connecticut counties.

Diverse Products Competing for the Top Spot

This year’s 16 featured contenders span a wide spectrum of creative industries, including cutting-edge medical devices, aerospace technology, everyday consumer goods, and delicious local food items. Head-to-head matchups will be decided entirely by public online voting.

When you are planning your itinerary to see where these goods are crafted, you might want to look at various cities and towns. Voting officially opens to the public on August 20.

First-Round Matchups to Watch

Notable first-round pairings feature standout products that prove our state punches well above its weight class in production. Fans can cast ballots for heavy-hitting innovations like Medtronic’s robotic surgery system.

Other traditional favorites include Martin Rosol’s classic kielbasa and Sheffield Pharmaceuticals’ widely used toothpaste. You can easily explore many other local attractions while following along with the tournament brackets.

More Contenders Vying for Glory

Additional creative matchups feature items that blend historical craftsmanship with modern utility. Keep your eyes open for entries like the historic Waterbury Button Co. Santa Claus brass button.

The competition also features rugged gear like Calzone Case Co.’s specialized workstation and aromatic favorites like Omar Coffee’s breakfast blend. The competition will steadily narrow down through subsequent elimination rounds.

The Road to the Manufacturing Summit

The ultimate champion of this year’s contest will be officially announced on October 1. The grand reveal takes place at the CBIA’s annual Made in Connecticut: Manufacturing Summit.

This major industry gathering is scheduled to be held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. For visitors traveling into the capital region for the big event, be sure to browse options where to stay for a comfortable weekend trip.
