The young defensive star’s journey from small-town Iowa to NFL champion has struck a chord with football fans across Connecticut. His recent youth football camps have drawn crowds of eager young athletes and their families.

DeJean’s humble approach to fame and his drive to inspire the next generation have made him especially popular in the Constitution State.

The Interception That Changed Everything

When Cooper DeJean jumped in front of Patrick Mahomes’ pass and dashed 38 yards to the end zone during Super Bowl LIX, he didn’t just score a touchdown—he carved his name into Philadelphia Eagles history.

The interception gave the Eagles a commanding 17-0 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs and proved pivotal in securing the franchise’s second Super Bowl victory.

“That moment was surreal,” DeJean told a crowd at his recent camp in Hartford. “It was actually my first NFL interception, so to have it come on that stage was something I couldn’t have dreamed up.”

Connecticut Embraces a New Football Hero

Since his Super Bowl heroics, DeJean has become a sought-after figure in Connecticut communities. From autograph sessions in Stamford to youth football clinics in New Haven, he pulls in crowds of all ages.

At a recent two-day camp at Bridgeport’s Kennedy Stadium, more than 300 young athletes joined drills and activities led by the NFL star.

Parents from Greenwich to Waterbury have noticed DeJean’s hands-on approach with young athletes. “He doesn’t just stand on the sidelines,” said Maria Sanchez of Danbury, whose 12-year-old son attended DeJean’s camp.

“He gets right in there with the kids, challenging them and encouraging them at the same time.”

Small-Town Roots Shape DeJean’s Approach

DeJean grew up in Odebolt, Iowa, a town of about 1,000. He credits his multi-sport background for his athletic versatility and success.

During his stop at Norwalk’s Veteran’s Park, he made sure to share this with the young athletes gathered there.

“Growing up, I played everything—football, basketball, baseball, track. Each sport taught me something different,” DeJean explained.

“That variety helped me develop different skills and kept sports fun.”

His philosophy feels especially relevant in Connecticut, where youth sports specialization is pretty common. DeJean encourages kids to try different activities instead of focusing on just one sport.

Leading by Example On and Off the Field

At his camps, DeJean doesn’t just talk about athletic development—he shows it. At his Middletown clinic, participants saw him:

  • Jump in for every drill alongside campers
  • Offer coaching tips to kids who were struggling
  • Challenge top performers to one-on-one matchups
  • Share stories about overcoming adversity in his own career
  • Even with all the attention, DeJean keeps a grounded perspective that Connecticut families really appreciate. “Success hasn’t changed him,” said Hartford youth coach Marcus Williams.

“He’s as humble working with our kids as he was before that Super Bowl moment.”

    Looking Ahead: DeJean’s Expanding Role

DeJean’s gearing up for his second NFL season, and the stakes feel higher. With a few veteran defensive backs gone from Philadelphia, he’s walking into a leadership role—even though he’s still pretty young himself.

“The Super Bowl was amazing, but it’s just one moment,” DeJean told reporters during his stop in Westport. “I’m focused on improving every aspect of my game and helping our younger players develop.

    That’s what great teammates do.”

For thousands of Connecticut kids who’ve met DeJean this offseason, his influence really goes beyond that one interception. He’s showing them how to handle success with some real humility and how to use your platform to lift others up.
